Kingfisher Blue — #357c8a

Updated: Aug 7

Kingfisher blue is a deep blueish-green, named after the bird that shares its bold plumage color. The bird's unique coloration is caused by the Tyndall effect, much like blue eyes. Essentially, the light is back-scattered, resulting in the viewer seeing mainly blue light, the shorter wavelengths of visible light. This color is structurally based, not pigment based.

The kingfisher's color is a great representation of not only the final ice dye result, but the entire Rainbow Dye-It project. Color can be represented in so many ways and each of us experience and react to color in our own unique way.

Kingfisher Blue is a fun one because it instantly changes color when it hits the ice. The green powder goes ultra dark, then transforms into a navy blue before settling into a deep, true, blue-green. This color tends to stay fairly true to its tub dye color, finishing with a mix of blues, greens, and teals that invoke a kind of pond water vibe. There are teensy specks of yellow and magenta that sneak in. All around, just a great color with a ton of meaning and a lot of attitude.
